Vacancy for Field Security Officer in WHO in Abuja

WHO is the directing and coordinating authority for health within the United Nations system. It is responsible for providing leadership on global health matters, shaping the health research agenda, setting norms and standards, articulating evidence-based policy options, providing technical support to countries and monitoring and assessing health trends.

Description of duties for Field Security Officer:
  • Undertake security assessment to analyse security factors and levels of risk related to WHO/NGA staff and activities, and to evaluate existing security measures to the safeguarding of staff, property, premises of WHO/NGA and private residences of WHO/NGA staff members; make appropriate recommendations to WR/NGA and participate in arrangements for their improvement
  • Prepare guidelines for, and be instrumental in, implementing enhanced security precautions/measures/standards for WHO/NGA and country offices in the field; review country/duty station-specific security/evacuation plans and propose improvements/necessary changes; ensure that staff are familiar with these plans
  • Brief staff on radio communication procedures, convoy procedures, identification of explosive devices, identification of equipment required for security measures, security and evacuation procedures and other security issues and precautions to be taken
  • Provide systematic reporting on security issues to WR/NGA and supervision, consulting and collaborating with the UNDSS Country office as and when necessary.
  • Perform any other relevant duties
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Essential: University degree in public or business administration, social or political sciences, international relations, government or law.
Skills:
  •  Relevant military or police training, direct field experience in an internantional context such as UN system organization field operations, UN peacekeeping operations
  •  Knowledge of UN security management system
  •  Proven analytical skills
  • Investigation background would be an asset.
Experience:
Some years relevant professional experience at both national and international level within governmental and corporate agencies and/or relevant military or police service.
Languages:
Excellent knowledge of English or French with a very good knowledge of the other. Knowledge of other official languages or local languages an asset.
