Job vacancy for Media Consultant in Abuja

As part of the efforts to strengthen the effectiveness of mass media in promoting a well informed citizenry, citizen engagement and accountability of public representatives and institutions of citizens, the Democratic Governance for Development (DGD) plans to work with stakeholders on the establishment and operations of Community Radio Stations for Democracy and Development in Nigeria. Preparatory to the implementation of this initiative, and in collaboration with the National Community Radio Coalition, the DGD plans to organize a national workshop on the Community Radio Stations for democracy and Development in Nigeria.
Objectives

  • To sensitise government, stakeholders and donor partners on the immense benefits of community radio stations can make towards the strengthening of the democratic process and ensure that the citizens participate in the electoral process;
  • To provide a strong advocacy platform and impetus for appropriate legal reforms and regulatory frameworks that will facilitate the establishment and effective operations of community radio stations in Nigeria and;
  • To improve the capacity and boost the skills of potential operators in the technical operations and sound management of community radio stations in Nigeria.
  • Assist the DGD in identifying relevant stakeholders for participation at the National Workshop on Building Community Radio Stations for Democracy in Nigeria
  • Assist the DGD in the contact and invitation of participants for the National Workshop on the Building of Community Radio Stations in Nigeria
  • To maximize participants comprehension of key media issues in relation to January 2011 elections and coordinate active engagement of the group in discussing, raising issues, drawing conclusions, etc.
  • To solicit feedback from meeting participants through informal and formal means to gauge reactions of participants 
  • Prepare and present to the DGD a comprehensive report of the National Workshop on Building Community Radio for Democracy in Nigeria.
Qualifications

  • A minimum of a Master degree in the field of Communication, Media studies or other social science related subject.
  • At least 10 years progressive professional experience in work with Media in Nigeria
  • Experience in Community Radio practice an advantage
  • Previous experience in facilitating media workshops and meetings required 
  • Strong skills in written communications in English
  • Excellent spoken English is also required.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Political Science, International Relations, International Diplomacy, Public Administration, Sociology, Law  or relevant field
  • At least 12 years of progressively responsible and relevant experience in Peace and Security, Conflict Prevention, Management, Resolution, Post-Conflict activities on the African Continent or elsewhere
  • Minimum of 5 years work experience managing others, preferably in a supervisory capacity within an international organization

Requirements
• University degree in political science, sociology, law, international relations, or related field
• Four years of relevant professional experience in the field of international humanitarian affairs
• Proven inter-personal and good communication skills
• Experience in a multi-cultural environment

Responsibilities

  • Establish detailed construction drawing sets for project proposals to confirm to client on their needs.
  • Co-ordinate customer site visits with the sales team to provide technical support for their presentations and proposals for clients they identify.
  • Correspond with local and federal government authorities for necessary approvals and permits required to undertake the project.
  • Draft post-construction project commissioning procedures and render aid in project commissioning.
  • He will be responsible for the construction and installation of active systems, which require solar collectors, concentrators, pumps and fans
  • Responsible for designs and recommendations on power specifications.
  • Installation of passive systems, with the best use of windows and insulation to absorb and reflect solar radiation for heating and cooling purposes
  • Building solar energy systems that use mirrors to absorb and convert the sun’s radiation into heat energy
Requirements

  • Must have a Degree in Electronic Engineering with civil engineering as an elective subject with at least 5-10 years experience solar power site evaluation.
  • Must have knowledge of developing solar power schematics, knowledge of layout and design tools used in solar power projects design.
  • Must possess the ability to draft, read plans and provide solar power design.
  • Must have sound knowledge in large scale solar power electronics and electrical power systems design.
  • Must have ability to implement electrical, mechanical, structural and civil engineering.
  • Must have absolute ability to read, understand and edit electrical and structural plans.
  • Must be proficient in AutoCAD and MS Office.
